Delhi : The Public Works Department (PWD) has set a deadline of April 30 to repair 7,000 potholes on roads across the national capital, as per an official directive.
The order, issued to senior PWD officials, references a presentation made before the Delhi Council of Ministers on February 21, chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
“In this presentation, specific timelines were committed for inviting tenders and initiating work. All concerned officers are directed to ensure strict adherence to these deadlines,” the communication stated.
According to the enclosed report, pothole repairs are being carried out using departmental maintenance vans. Additionally, the PWD has identified 20 lakh square meters of road patches in need of repairs. The tender process for these works is expected to conclude by March 15, with completion also targeted by April 30.
The deteriorating condition of roads was a key issue during the recent Delhi Assembly elections. The initiative is being overseen by PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh, part of the newly elected BJP government.
The BJP secured a decisive victory in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, winning 48 seats, while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was reduced to 22 seats.
