On Republic Day, 20 Delhi Police officers were honoured with medals in recognition of their exemplary service and commitment to duty.

Among them, three officers—Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Asif Mohammad Ali, ACP Sanjay Dutt, and ACP Som Nath Paruthi—were awarded the prestigious President’s Medal for Distinguished Service. Seventeen others were conferred with the Police Medal for Meritorious Service, according to officials.

ACP Asif Mohammad Ali, who joined the Delhi Police in the DANIPS cadre as an assistant commissioner in 1994, is currently serving as Joint Director at the Delhi Police Academy. Under his tenure, nearly 75,000 Delhi Police personnel and other stakeholders have received training in New Criminal Laws. He has spearheaded initiatives to enhance capacity building and skill development through collaborations with institutions such as Rashtriya Raksha University. Additionally, he was nominated by the Delhi Commissioner of Police to draft a roadmap for the capacity building of the Delhi Police Commandos Unit in coordination with India’s elite commando forces.

ACP Sanjay Dutt began his career in the Delhi Police in 1989 as a sub-inspector (Executive) and served at various police stations in South-West and New Delhi districts.
During his tenure with the Special Cell, he was instrumental in the neutralisation and apprehension of numerous terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HuM), as well as gangsters, drug traffickers, arms dealers, and other dangerous criminals.

ACP Som Nath Paruthi, who joined the Delhi Police as a sub-inspector (Executive) in 1994, has served in multiple roles within the force and during his deputation with the Bureau of Immigration. Currently posted at the Office of the Delhi Commissioner of Police, he has held the position of station house officer at seven police stations and worked in various units, including metro, training, traffic, and headquarters.

Recognised for his expertise, he was awarded the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation in 2019, the Utkrisht Seva Padak in 2020, and the Commissioner of Police Special Disc and Certificate for his exceptional duties during the G-20 Summit in Delhi.
