Over 5,000 folk and tribal artists showcased 45 traditional dance forms from across India during the 76th Republic Day celebrations, with performances spanning the entire Kartavya Path for the first time, ensuring all guests had an equal viewing experience.
The 11-minute cultural performance, titled “Jayati Jaya Mamaḧ Bharatam”, was curated by the Sangeet Natak Academy. This vibrant presentation paid homage to India’s rich tribal and folk traditions as a tribute to the 150th birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda.
The choreography embraced themes such as ‘Viksit Bharat’, ‘Virasat bhi Vikas bhi’, and ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’. The lyrics for the performance were penned by Subhash Sehgal, while Shankar Mahadevan composed the music.
Dancers adorned authentic costumes, jewellery, headgear, and traditional props like spears, swords, and drums, breathing life into the performances. To enhance the visual appeal, the National School of Drama team created over 60 props, including decorated instruments, floral elements, muppets, and unique structures like Ambala Kavadi and Poo Kavadi, adding depth to the artistic expression.
