The Delhi Police on Friday informed a Delhi Court that a Special Investigation Team has been constituted to probe the sexual harassment case against Wrestling Federation of India president Brij Bhushan Singh.

Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava informed Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Harjeet Singh Jaspal of Rouse Avenue Courts that a status report has been filed in the matter under a sealed cover.

Srivastava however submitted that the status report must not be shared with anyone considering that the case involves sexual offences.

The court was also informed that statement of one of the victims before the concerned magistrate under section 164 of CrPC will be recorded today.

The matter will now be heard on May 27.

The court was hearing a plea moved by women wrestlers for a court-monitored investigation in the matter. Earlier this week, the judge had directed the Delhi Police to submit a report on the action taken in the case.

The wrestlers are represented by Advocates Anindya Malhotra, Shaurya Lamba.

Delhi Police has registered two FIRs in the Connaught Place police station against Singh. One FIR was registered under various offences under Indian Penal Code, 1860 whereas the other FIR was registered under the POCSO Act.

The FIR under the POCSO Act has been registered on sexual harassment allegations of a minor wrestler. The second FIR is based on the complaints of other women wrestlers.

Recently, the Supreme Court closed the petition moved by three women wrestlers taking note of the fact that FIRs have been registered by the Delhi Police against Singh over alleged sexual harassment. (With inputs from PTI)
