A video featuring Sonam Kapoor was posted on New Delhi district Facebook page ahead of the polling. In the video, Kapoor asked people from Rajinder Nagar constituency to show up in large numbers to vote in bypoll on Thursday, 23 June 2022.
Around 1,899 voters fall in the category of 18-19 age group in a total number of 1,64,698 electors eligible to cast their vote in the constituency.
Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh stated that voting initiated at 7 in the morning under tight security arrangements, news agency PTI reported.
Kapoor was chosen as a district icon by bypoll authorities to reach out to the Rajinder Nagar audience.
The number of eligible voters in the Rajinder Nagar assembly seat for the 2022 bypoll is less than the count of electors in this assembly seat during the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, as death and migration of voters have been factored in.
2022 bypoll for Rajinder Nagar constituency has less eligible voters than 2020 Delhi Assembly elections due to death and migration that factored in. The counting of votes will take place on 26 June.
The key election issues remain water shortage and the government’s liquor policy, with fourteen candidates competing.
There are eight independent nominees and three candidates from unrecognized parties, apart from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress.
