The Supreme Court on Tuesday said that bail matters should be resolved promptly and urged the Delhi High Court to expedite its decision on the bail plea filed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain.
A Bench comprising Justices Manoj Misra and SVN Bhatti expressed concern over the six-week adjournment of Jain’s plea during the vacation period. Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi highlighted this delay, stating that similar cases are typically decided within a week.
“We trust the High Court will ensure expeditious resolution of this matter,” the Court remarked, declining Jain’s request for immediate Supreme Court intervention.
The Court disposed of the plea, instructing the High Court to promptly address the matter without unnecessary delay.
The High Court has been scheduled to reach a decision by the next hearing on July 9.
Jain, arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in May 2022 on charges of money laundering, had earlier been granted interim bail on medical grounds by the Supreme Court in 2023, which was subsequently denied when his regular bail plea was rejected.
The ED’s case against Jain, arising from a CBI FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act, involves allegations of acquiring assets through questionable means and transactions involving shell companies. (With inputs from PTI)
