As per sources, the suspected patient of monkeypox had travelled abroad about a month ago. The patient was admitted to the LNJP Hospital.

The sources also stated that the reports of the patient are awaited from National Institute of Virology, Pune.

The man had a fever and lesions for the last one week. He was admitted to the state-run hospital on Tuesday afternoon and is in the isolation ward.

There have been monkeypox cases in the country, with three being reported from Kerala so far.

The first case of monkeypox to be reported in the city was a man from west Delhi, who is now recovering in the isolation ward of the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital.

The reported patient had no recent history of travel abroad, it was more likely that he had acquired the infection domestically, leading to the contact-tracing exercise.

The man will be discharged once his lesions are completely healed since his condition is stable.

Those who are infected must remain in a separate room with “separate ventilation,” according the Center’s patient isolation standards.

As far as possible, the skin lesions should be covered while they wear a triple-ply mask to reduce the chance of coming into contact with others.

Until all lesions have healed and the scabs have fully peeled off, the patients should be kept apart.

The World Health Organization (WHO) had earlier labelled the disease a worldwide health emergency, but chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and other health officials emphasised there was no need to fear because appropriate preparations had been taken.
