Autumn in Delhi paints the city in a palette of warm hues, transforming its landscape into a mesmerizing spectacle of nature’s transition.

This season, typically spanning from late September to October end, brings relief from the scorching summer heat, offering a pleasant interlude before the onset of winter.

One of the most enchanting aspects of autumn in Delhi is the changing foliage. Trees shed their vibrant green coats, adopting shades of gold, amber, and russet. The iconic boulevards and parks, such as Lodhi Gardens and India Gate, become a canvas of rich colors, providing a serene backdrop for leisurely strolls and outdoor activities.

The weather during autumn is characterized by a gentle breeze and mild temperatures. This transitional climate creates a perfect setting for open-air events, festivals, and cultural activities, which are abundant during this time.

It invites both residents and visitors to savor the beauty of the city as it gracefully transitions from the intensity of summer to the crisp embrace of winter.

Here are some places one can visit in Delhi during this time:

Lotus Temple: The Lotus Temple, a breathtaking architectural marvel, graces the landscape of Delhi as a symbol of peace, unity, and spiritual diversity. The lotus structure represents four different religions — Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, and Buddhism. The Bahai faith asserts that all religions and beliefs are united and is the owner of this magnificent monument in Delhi.

The structure is composed of 27 pristine white marble-clad “petals,” arranged in clusters of three to form nine sides, creating the appearance of a lotus in full bloom. The best time to visit the Lotus Temple is in autumn and spring.

Nehru Planetarium: Situated in the heart of the city, near India Gate, the planetarium is dedicated to popularizing astronomy and space sciences. Take a celestial tour to learn more about our existence, or spend the afternoon exploring the vast, alien universe surrounded by the planets, stars, and solar system. Each presentation in English and Hindi lasts for roughly 25 to 30 minutes.

Nehru Park: Relax in the peaceful surroundings of Nehru Park, where the changing colors of the leaves create a tranquil atmosphere. The park often hosts cultural events and concerts during this season.

National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum: Spend a day at the National Handicrafts and Handlooms Museum to appreciate India’s diverse traditional crafts. The museum’s open spaces make it a pleasant visit during the autumn months.
