Approximately 200 organizations from all over the nation will take part in the 21 km-march from Nand Nagri to Jantar Mantar, according to Rai, who is also the founder of the ‘Desh Ki Baat Foundation.’
Emphasizing “massive unemployment” in the nation, he said the Centre recently stated in the Parliament that 22 crore people applied for jobs in the past eight years out of which just 7.22 lakh could be employed.
“The Centre says 80 crore people are getting free ration which means we have not been able to enable majority of people in the country to be gainfully employed despite 70 years of Independence”, Rai said.
According to him, the goal of the Rozgar Andolan is to raise public awareness of the problem and persuade the Central Government to release a national employment policy.
India would not develop quickly if millions of people in the nation continue to be jobless and reliant on the government. Rai emphasised the importance of mapping local natural resources and generating employment possibilities.
Rai said the Sanyukt Rojgar Andolan Samiti is not related to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and his foundation was independently working with it on the issue of employment for the last one and a half years.
The Samiti had submitted an employment policy to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), but no positive response has been received yet, Rai said.
The minister noted that although the government had previously stated that it would make an employment policy, it just informed the Parliament that no panel had been established to consider it.
Rai added that the Rozgar Andolan demonstration will take place at Jantar Mantar from 16 to 21 August, according to the Samiti. After obtaining police approval for the Jantar Mantar meeting, other programmes will be announced.
