The sittings of the second part of the Budget Session of the Eighth Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, scheduled for May 13 (Tuesday) and May 14 (Wednesday), 2025, have been cancelled, according to an official notification issued by the Assembly Secretariat on Monday.
The cancellation comes just a day before the session was set to commence. “The sitting of the Second Part of Second Session (Budget Session) of Eighth Legislative Assembly of NCT of Delhi scheduled to be held on May 13 and 14, have been cancelled,” the notification signed by Mukesh C Sharma, Deputy Secretary and Head of Office, stated. No reasons for the cancellation were provided.
The session was expected to see the tabling and passage of the Delhi School Education Transparency in Fixation and Regulation of Fees Bill, 2025, a key legislation aimed at regulating private school fees. The Bill proposes stringent penalties, including cancellation of registration for schools found involved in unauthorised fee hikes or harassment of students on fee-related grounds.
The Delhi Cabinet had approved the draft Bill on April 29, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stating that a special Assembly session would be convened for its passage.

Originally scheduled to begin at 2 PM on May 13 in the Assembly Hall at Old Secretariat, the second part of the Budget Session followed the first part held in March, during which CM Gupta presented her maiden budget. The 2025–26 budget, with an outlay of Rs 1 lakh crore, marked a 31.5% increase from the previous fiscal year.
With the latest cancellation, it remains unclear when the Bill will be tabled and whether the Assembly will be reconvened in the near future to take up pending legislative business.
