Police nabbed two men for a hit-and-run that killed a traffic head constable at the Singhu border in outer-north Delhi, officials said.
The incident took place at around 6 pm on Wednesday when Head Constable Amit, posted with the traffic unit at Singhu border, was regulating traffic, police said.
The speeding vehicle which rammed into the traffic policeman has been seized, they said.
Head Constable Amit, a resident of Sonipat in neighbouring Haryana, was immediately rushed by his colleagues to Narela’s Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital (SRHC), where doctors declared him brought dead on arrival, an officer said.
An FIR has been registered at Alipur Police Station under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the BNS. Kuldeep alias Karan and Neeraj have been apprehended in the case.
“It is with deep regret that Head Constable Amit, posted in the Traffic Unit at Singhu Border, has passed away in a hit-and-run incident. He is survived by his wife and two children,” Delhi Police had said in a statement.
Police said multiple teams worked on the case by examining CCTV footage and other technical leads, which helped identify the vehicle and catch the accused. Further investigation and legal formalities are underway, police said.
