Delhi and its neighboring areas in the National Capital Region (NCR) woke up to moderate to heavy rainfall this morning, leading to waterlogging in various parts of the city.

Parts of the city such as ITO got waterlogged causing traffic snarls and hinderance in traffic movement. The downpour also significantly affected vehicular traffic due to reduced visibility on the roads.

On Tuesday, some areas in Delhi NCR witnessed moderate rainfall, which raised the water level of the Hindon river, resulting in inundation of several houses and roads in Greater Noida, said officials.

They said due to the overflowing Hindon river, around 350 cars belonging to the online cab aggregator Ola were submerged when they were parked at a dump yard in Greater Noida, near the low-lying area.

According to officials, the water level of the Yamuna River in Delhi continued to overflow, with the water level recorded at 205.45 meters at 7 am on Tuesday morning, surpassing the danger mark of 205.33 meters. The previous day, the water level reached 206.56 meters.

The Safdarjung weather station reported 37.1 mm of rainfall early this morning, while Lodhi Road recorded 35.1 mm, and Palam recorded 1.8 mm. Between 5.30 am and 8.30 am, Mayur Vihar received the highest amount of rainfall, recording 110.5 mm.

The weather forecast predicts moderate rainfall for Thursday as well, with a ‘yellow’ alert issued for the day, advising people to remain cautious.

As a result of the heavy rains and waterlogging, all schools up to Class 12 in Noida and Greater Noida will remain closed on Wednesday, as per the directive from the Gautam Buddh Nagar district administration.

District Magistrate Manish Kumar Verma said, “Due to rains and waterlogging, all schools up to Class 12 will remain closed for today.”
