A Delhi court has sought a status report from the Delhi Police regarding the sexual harassment case involving Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India.
The court responded to a plea filed by protesting wrestlers who sought supervision of the investigation and the recording of statements from the alleged victims in court.
The court has instructed the police to submit the report by May 12 and has scheduled a further hearing on the matter.
In response to the incident, the women wrestlers involved approached the Supreme Court, leading to the registration of two FIRs (First Information Reports) on April 28. One FIR was filed against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, concerning the sexual harassment of a minor girl. Another FIR was registered regarding sexual harassment allegations made by other complainants.
Prominent wrestlers in the country, including Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, and Vinesh Phogat, have been engaged in a sit-in protest at Jantar Mantar since April 23, demanding the arrest of the Wrestling Federation of India president, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. (With inputs from PTI)
