Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has granted his approval for the allocation of 25 acres of land to both Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and Delhi Teachers’ University. These parcels of land will be utilized for the establishment of campuses in the Narela region.

In addition to this, Saxena has also given the green light to the universities’ proposal to procure flats from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in Narela, intended for housing staff members and accommodating students. This move is expected to significantly contribute to the area’s developmental progress.

The Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) was grappling with a severe shortage of space. To address this issue, the university reached out to the DDA with a request for land allocation for their new North Campus dedicated to residential facilities. They also sought the allocation of DDA flats in Narela, aiming to fulfill the residential needs of their staff and student body.

Similarly, the Delhi Teachers’ University, which commenced its operations in January of the previous year and was operating out of a school building in Mukherjee Nagar’s Outram Line, corresponded with the DDA. Their communication requested a 25-acre land allocation in Narela for the establishment of their campus. The university also sought DDA flats to accommodate both staff members and students.

In response to these appeals, the Lieutenant Governor, who also chairs the DDA, has approved the allocation of 25 acres of land to each university by the DDA. Moreover, an allocation of 200 flats to each institution has been sanctioned to meet their respective housing and accommodation requirements, as per the officials’ statements.
