The Delhi government has taken a significant step towards engaging the youth in environmental and forestry pursuits by introducing a new internship programme.
The initiative was unveiled during the fourth Van Mahotsav ceremony held at the Polo Ground of Delhi University.
The program’s focal point is an online internship portal that was officially inaugurated by Delhi’s Environment Minister, Gopal Rai. Its primary objective is to provide college students with an immersive experience into the inner workings of the Department of Forest and Wildlife.
Minister Rai underscored the dual purpose of the platform, as it not only aims to nurture young minds but also seeks to tap into their potential to explore innovative technologies for the management of forests and wildlife. The initiative is expected to significantly contribute to enhancing the understanding and preservation of these crucial ecosystems.
Rai said the government has a plantation target of 5.2 million saplings this year. In addition, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will plant 5 million shrubs.
College students with a passion for environmental conservation and forestry can apply for the internship through the dedicated website: https://internship.eforest.delhi.gov.in.
This program signifies a proactive effort by the Delhi government to involve the youth in meaningful pursuits that align with the larger goal of environmental protection and sustainable management of natural resources.
With this initiative, the government hopes to foster a generation of environmentally conscious individuals who can contribute positively to the conservation and preservation of Delhi’s rich biodiversity. (With inputs from PTI)
