Delhiites, familiar with the annual struggle against air pollution, need effective strategies to safeguard their well-being during challenging times.

By staying informed, using protective gear, creating indoor havens, adjusting routines, and actively supporting green initiatives, Delhiites can take proactive steps to navigate through air pollution days with resilience and well-being intact.

Here are five practical tips to help you navigate air pollution days and prioritize your health.

1. Use High-Quality Masks

Invest in N95 or N99 respirator masks, especially during days of high pollution. These masks are designed to filter out fine particulate matter, offering better protection against harmful pollutants.

2. Create Indoor Clean Zones

Improve indoor air quality by using air purifiers with HEPA filters. Keep windows and doors closed during times of high pollution. This helps create a safe haven indoors, reducing exposure to outdoor pollutants.

3. Limit Outdoor Activities

During days of severe pollution, minimize outdoor activities, especially strenuous exercises. If possible, reschedule outdoor workouts or opt for indoor alternatives to avoid inhaling pollutants.

4. Choose the Right Time for Activities

Schedule outdoor activities during times when pollution levels are lower. Early mornings or late evenings may offer better air quality compared to peak traffic hours during the day.

5. Promote Green Transportation

Choose sustainable modes of transportation, such as walking, cycling, or using public transport. If driving, carpooling or using electric vehicles can help reduce overall vehicular emissions.

6. Maintain Respiratory Health

Strengthen your respiratory system through regular exercise and a healthy diet. Stay hydrated and take frequent steam to support your body’s natural ability to flush out toxins. If you have respiratory conditions, consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice.

7. Monitor Air Quality

Stay informed about the air quality in your area. Use reliable apps or websites that provide real-time updates on pollution levels. This awareness allows you to plan outdoor activities on days with better air quality.
