Gardener dies after electric shock while pruning trees at Delhi University’s south campus

A 33-year-old private gardener died after allegedly suffering an electric shock while pruning trees at Delhi University’s south campus in Delhi, police said on Tuesday.

A PCR call regarding the death of the man was received at South Campus police station at 5:30 pm on Monday, police in a statement said.

Police staff reached the spot and shifted the man to Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. An medico-legal case (MLC) was prepared accordingly, read the statement.

During the preliminary enquiry, it was found that the deceased was working as a private gardener at the university campus and had allegedly suffered an electric shock while pruning trees, a senior police officer said.

The exact circumstances leading to the electrocution are being ascertained as part of the investigation, police said.

In connection with the incident, an FIR has been registered at South Campus police station on September 7, police said, adding that further investigation is underway.

Family members and relatives of the victim staged a protest outside of the campus and demanded strict action against those responsible.

The protesters also demanded a job and compensation for the wife of the victim.
