Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Delhi Kendra, will mark its 87th Foundation Day with the 17th Sangeet Samaroh — a festival celebrating Indian classical art and culture — on Friday, November 7, from 6:00 PM onwards at Kamani Auditorium.
The evening will be presided over by Shri Banwari Lal Purohit, Trustee and Vice President of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and Chairman of the Delhi Kendra, while Justice Nitin Wasudeo Sambre, Judge of the Delhi High Court, will grace the occasion as Guest of Honour.
A highlight of the celebration will be the presentation of Bhavan’s Sangeet Shikhar Samman, an honour that recognises outstanding contributions to Indian classical music and dance.
The festival will open with an Odissi performance titled Bhava & Bhakti: Sacred Steps of Devotion by Vidushi Madhulita Mohapatra, accompanied by Smt Sahana R. Maiya and Smt Paridhi Joshi. This will be followed by a Kathak recital by Vidushi Vidha Lal, joined by an ensemble of leading musicians — Shri Shubeb Hasan (Vocal), Shri Hiren Chate (Tabla), Shri Ashish Gangani (Pakhawaj), and Shri Amir Khan (Sarangi). Both featured artistes are recipients of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
Established in 1938 by Kulpati Dr KM Munshi at the instance of Mahatma Gandhi, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan has been a pioneering institution in promoting Indian art, culture, and education. Since 2009, its Delhi Kendra has commemorated Foundation Day through the annual Sangeet Samaroh, which has featured over 82 eminent artistes and honoured 18 iconic figures in the field of classical arts.
The 17th edition continues this tradition — an evening that pays tribute to Bhavan’s founding vision while celebrating India’s enduring performing arts heritage.
