Gond art

What: India’s pioneering second-generation artist from the Pardhan Gond tradition — Venkat Raman Singh Shyam — is showcasing a body of new works in a solo exhibition titled, Clouds of Wings. The exhibition articulates his ideas of the world around him, once peopled with beloved gods, familiar flora and fauna with trees, birds and beasts hurtle into another time zone. The work explores identity and memory through a range of paintings that celebrate life and the incandescent beauty of nature that is in a state of constant flux by being generated and regenerated. Over the decades, Venkat’s trajectory has been not only to reclaim the songs and allegories of his ancestors, but also to impart his own unique perspective to it.
