Dance of life

What: ‘Ýh – DUMB!’ – this dance theatre production is all about exploring the dumbness we experience in our daily life. With dance performances (jazz, contemporary dance) and physical theatre, Danza Performing Arts’ is back with its 10th annual summer dance theatre production. It is about realising that one actually needs freedom from one’s own self, freedom from mindlessness in daily living and hence, freedom from the ’dumb’. Herd mentality, addiction to mobile phones, restless-bed syndrome, moral policing, being in toxic relationships, losing our own identity and the freedom to speak in all this madness, are a few ideas that will be explored with dance and physical theatre. Creativity, getting back to flow energy and unconditionality of joy, irrespective of what there is, was the answer they found.

When: June 1- 2 (7:30 pm)

Where: Apparel House, Sector 44, Gurugram

Art on your plate

What: Here’s an exhibition that brings food and art together. Titled, When Food Meets Art, this exhibit will showcase various kinds of sculptures that are made of distinct elements, such as a clay pot, ceramic and wood. The concept brings back the era of yesteryears with an emphasis on the usage of clay pot and ceramic in cooking healthy food as well as in art. The authentic delicacies will be cooked in earthen pots to retain their flavours and offer the guests an unusual experience when food meets art. The specially curated menu has regional Indian dishes that have been conceptualised by all the artists and curator. The exhibit will showcase the work and regional recipes by six accomplished artists, namely, Mouktik Kate, Susmita Basu, Vijaya Chauhan, Virender Singh, Rahul Kumar and Cyrus.

When: May 20 – July 20

Where: Lower Ground Floor, Pullman New Delhi Aerocity

Down the river

What: When the Ganges riverbed dries up in the Himalayas due to intensified damming, curious six-year-old, Anu who has been hearing wonderful mythological stories about the river, asks “if the river is not there, why read stories about it?” Mom Valli decides to get some answers. And so, they pack their bags and with brother, Marthand set out on an adventure across the vast Indian landscape, filming the social and environmental (specifically on water) impact of big energy projects and to witness the rise of solar and wind. A wild and intense ride, Sun Ganges dives right into the heart of matters. In the process of filming, the makers meet actor Naseeruddin Shah who adds a dubious, yet not entirely unfamiliar dimension to the subject. Join in for its Indian premiere organised by Kriti Film Club.
