A fair for many nationalities

During the first week of February, an uprising of colours, the rhythm of drum beats, and the joy of life collided at Surajkund in Faridabad. The acclaimed annual Surajkund International Crafts Mela, a celebration of Indian folk traditions and cultural heritage, began from February 3 and will continue till February 19 in Faridabad.

Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar officially opened the 36th Surajkund International Crafts Mela in Faridabad. He stated that India has become the world’s fastest-growing economy, and that artisans and craftspeople have contributed significantly to the growth.

Surajkund International Crafts Mela is one of the world’s largest crafts fairs. This Mela is attended by representatives from 25 countries, including South Asia, Africa, and Europe, as well as all of India’s states. The theme for this year’s fair is the North-East region of the United States. The Shanghai Corporation Organization is the partner nation in this edition of the Mela.

More than a million visitors throng the Mela during the fortnight, including thousands of foreign tourists, earning it a place of pride on the international tourist calendar.

The Surajkund Mela is unique in that it showcases the richness and diversity f India’s handicrafts, handlooms, and cultural fabric.

Not only craft, but the Mela also has the magic of a variety of cuisines. Visitors love the food court because it serves ethnic cuisines from all over the world.

There are designated areas for entertainment, adventure sports, and joy rides, making it a must-see event for the youngsters.

The annual fair will provide its visitors with numerous spectacular experiences. The open-air theaters will feature performances by well-known national and international folk artists and cultural groups. The main Chaupal hosts enthralling cultural evening programmes.

A special section is dedicated to showcasing heritage crafts that will shape up for an experience of a lifetime along with popular names like Mika Singh, Pranjal Dahiya, Singer Kaka and many more performing at the event.
