‘Ambari’ – Cosmic energy in canvas

Aashima Mehrotra’s collection of paintings is a flash of mystical colours that create an enigmatic aura around old cities with rich architectural continuity – paving way to the concept of ‘Ambari’.

Her latest exhibition, ‘Ambari, is a genre, a style in and of itself. It is one of thematic unity that connects three sets of paintings which manifest cosmic energy in its visible and perceptible form, as perceived by the artist while sitting with her colour and brush under open sky.

Living in close proximity with nature has enabled Aashima to recognise the dynamic patterns of cosmic energy beneath the sky, and her work is an expression of that. She has used an encaustic medium in an unusual way to depict dynamic patterns.

‘Ambari’ also depicts an innovative art form known as half on half, in which heritage buildings and town ships are painted against the all-encompassing sky, unique to her style.

Additionally, Ambari tells us about human survival as it is reflected in “tug of life.” When the sand, water, and sky acquire cosmic qualities in ‘tug of survival,’ Aashima creates magic on her canvas, which captures your imagination against an unfathomable sea.

Ambari represents both the metaphor of space and the element of sky, highlighting the oxymoron that space is not a void but a possibility.

It celebrates cosmic consciousness and my intimate conversation with the cosmos by expressing the invisible pattern of cosmic energy through encaustic or in a half-on-half manner. The interplay of colour, sound, wind, and aroma enriches the sensory experience of the mysteries of nature. Besides, it retells stories of human experiences and survival challenges, depicting both hardship and hedonism.
