Art that paints romance

The Indian Habitat Centre will host an exhibition of paintings ‘Moort se Amroot’ by Gopal Swami Khetanchi from 6 September to 11 September between 11am to 7pm at the Visual Art Gallery.

The artist’s creative journey is multifaceted. Born and raised in Rajasthan, the land of chivalry and romance, Khetanchi has successfully worked in diverse art fields to finally cast an unblemished image of himself as a unique painter, depicting beauty – of people or places.

In his work we find a beautiful woman with a perfectly styled hairdo wearing a Banarasi Sari and a matching golden yellow shirt. She is adorned with jewellery, including Karnaphools, sometimes known as earrings, a necklace, and the golden Bor, which is encrusted with precious stones. Colourful bangles are stacked up the length of her left forearm. She plays the sitar while perched in the ideal position on a lotus. A swan is seen passing by while intently listening to the music. The artist has crafted a wonderfully romantic mood in this beautiful piece.

Khetanchi picked up the art from his personal surroundings and associations, daily activities and practical items, domestic crafts, art fairs and festivals, and by interacting with other artists.

Like his fellow contemporaries and masters of all genres of the east or west, Khetanchi was enamoured by the rich diversity of the art world. He soon came to the realization that his tendencies weren’t entirely either realism or romanticism.

The combination of flavours, lines, and colors particularly fascinated him and developed his own elegant “Khetanchi-style.” He is a renowned and exceptional painter in Rajasthan. The State Government Award, the Shan-e-Rajasthan Award, and the Maharaja Sajjan Singh Awar have all recognised him.

Khetanchi is a person who always looks for new ways to express his own aesthetic ideas and appearance through exploration of the depth of creation, which encompasses a variety of submissive thoughts.
