Gallery Threshold presents solo debut exhibition of Rahul Baswani titled ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ as a part of as its mission to discover and enable artistic talents on the cusp of their journey

Rahul Baswani comes from a corporate background. Although his love for art started from childhood with comic books, sports and work commitments distanced him from pursuing art. It was during the lockdown period that he took to art when it helped him to heal the long hours of solitude — which eventually culminated into an exhibition. Without a formal training in art, Rahul discovered his palette through creating shapes from imagination and trying new materials.

According to Rahul Baswani, “Reflecting over what art is, puts me back in a tailspin that created a 30-year gap between my first and only paining made in 1991 and then during the lockdown. I don’t have an academic definition in my head and the heart may not have words to define art but it does decide what I like. True confession – it was comics, fantasy art, sci-fi movies and visits to the zoo that gave my hands a map to trail. A cocktail of ‘envy for their talent’ and ‘gratitude for access’ to the many artists I have encountered have fueled the making of this show. Salut!”

Speaking on this exhibition, Tunty Chauhan, curator and gallerist says, “Rahul was selected purely to break self-set notions about who qualifies to be an artist. As a gallerist, its our job to keep our eyes open for a fresh approach. The idea here is to enjoy this burst of creativity and celebrate spontaneousness.”
