A two-person exhibition titled Constructed Stillness, featuring Bangalore-based artists Ashu Gupta and Sangeeta Abhay, will open at LTC, Bikaner House, on February 27. Presented by Artisera, the exhibition explores how stillness can be shaped through material, repetition and time.
On view until March 2, the exhibition brings together two distinct artistic approaches. Ashu Gupta works primarily with pen and ink, creating intricate compositions through thousands of repeated marks and paper piercing. Her works draw from memories, domestic spaces and everyday observations, presenting moments that appear suspended and contemplative.
Sangeeta Abhay’s practice spans painting and sculpture, using materials such as oil, gold leaf, resin and found objects. Her works explore themes of origin and presence. One of her sculptures, depicting Buddha in the Bhumisparsha Mudra and constructed from 108 discarded keyboards, reflects on mindfulness in an era shaped by digital life.
Despite differences in medium, both artists emphasise time and process. Repetition and layering become central to their work, shaping images that reflect patience, labour and sustained engagement.
Ashu Gupta studied at the National Institute of Fashion Design and later attended the Contemporary Art Summer School at the Royal College of Art. She has held solo exhibitions in Bangalore and has been nominated for the Lalit Kala Akademi Awards.
Sangeeta Abhay studied at the Government School of Art in Aurangabad and later transitioned from advertising to full-time art practice. Her work has received international recognition, including an award at the Florence Biennale, and has been featured in a documentary by the BBC.
