
Delhi Theatre Festival
Veteran theatre and film actors Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Pankaj Kapur, and Ratna Pathak Shah are set to grace the stage at the highly anticipated 4th edition of the Delhi Theatre Festival, scheduled to commence on August 4.
Organised by Alchemist Live, the theatre extravaganza is making a grand comeback after a three-year hiatus. The festival will showcase performances by some of the most eminent luminaries of the stage at various venues like Siri Fort Auditorium, Kamani Auditorium, OP Jindal Auditorium in New Delhi, and Orana Conventions in Gurugram.
The inauguration of the Delhi Theatre Festival will witness the seasoned stage and screen performers Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Pankaj Kapur, and Ratna Pathak Shah, creating an unforgettable theatrical experience starting in the first week of August.
The event promises theatre enthusiasts the opportunity to witness seven original plays over three days, all of which will be brought to life by legendary actors including Lillete Dubey, Shekhar Suman, Piyush Mishra, Vinay Pathak, Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, and Kanwaljit Singh.
Co-operator and co-founder of Alchemist Live, Prabhu Tony, expressed pride in establishing a platform where theatre can thrive, envisioning the annual ‘Delhi Theatre Festival’ as a breeding ground for the performing arts.
The festival’s schedule includes captivating plays such as “Chhui Muee” “Mughal Bachcha” and “Gharwali” by Naseeruddin Shah. Pankaj Kapur’s “Dopehri” Shekhar Suman and Suchitra Krishnamoorthi’s “Ek Haan” featuring Shahadat Hasan Manto’s works in a post-partition backdrop. Additionally, actor Vinay Pathak will present a new and modern interpretation of Shakespeare’s famous tragedy with his portrayal of King Lear in the play “Nothing Like Lear”.
The festival will also feature the film “Kaifi Aur Main” starring Shabana Azmi and Kanwaljit Singh, narrating the beautiful love story of the renowned poet Kaifi Azmi and his wife Shaukat Kaifi.
Adding musical flair to the event, actor, singer, and lyricist Piyush Mishra will perform with his band ‘Ballimaaraan‘ at Orana Conventions on August 5 and Siri Fort Auditorium on August 6.
