The North East Festival is returning to Delhi for its 12th edition, promising a rich display of Northeastern India’s culture, heritage, and entrepreneurial spirit. From November 15 to 17, MDC National Stadium at India Gate will transform into a vibrant hub where visitors can experience the diverse cultures of eight states and over 200 communities from the Northeast.

The festival, organised by Socio-Cultural Trust Trend MMS and supported by the Ministry of DoNER, Delhi Police, and other government bodies, has become a significant platform for cultural and economic exchange. Shyamkanu Mahanta, the event’s chief organiser, explained its purpose, “The North East Festival has gone beyond a simple cultural display. It’s now a place for unity, shared experiences, and a tourism showcase. This event celebrates the talent, heritage, and spirit of the Northeast”.

In addition to promoting understanding, the festival supports local businesses, with many MSME stalls showcasing agricultural products, traditional handlooms, and crafts from the region. A Tourism Business Meet will connect tour operators from Delhi with partners from the Northeast to encourage collaboration and build tourism opportunities.

Tourism is a major focus, with information about beautiful destinations like Dzukou Valley and historic sites such as Charideo Maidam. A campaign on improved air connectivity will further highlight the region’s accessibility, opening it up to a larger audience. The festival will also feature about 60 food stalls, offering everything from Assam tea to Nagaland coffee. The food section has become popular, creating a cross-cultural culinary experience and inspiring Northeastern-inspired restaurants in Delhi.

Art and fashion will be on display as well, with an exhibition of Northeastern art and the North East Fashion Weekend, featuring 16 designers who blend traditional and modern styles. “These fashion shows are a great way to highlight the skill and heritage of the Northeast,” Mahanta said. The fashion shows, which are held each evening, will be paired with musical performances, creating a lively atmosphere for audiences.

Music will play a central role, with the NEF Music Stage bringing together top bands and artists from both the Northeast and Delhi. Audiences will enjoy a range of genres, including folk music and traditional dances that reflect the region’s culture.

The festival will end with an awards ceremony honouring Northeastern achievers in sports, arts, and business. This closing segment is intended to recognize people who have contributed to their fields and serve as inspiration for others. The 12th North East Festival will give Delhiites a chance to connect with and celebrate the region’s vibrant culture and new ideas.
