Tickling lessons

What: For cinephiles in the city, here’s a screening of a Japanese film that relives the 1945 atomic bombing of Nagasaki. Children of Nagasaki goes back to August 7, 1945, during World War II, when Nagai Takashi, a doctor in the radioactive department at Nagasaki Medical School, evacuates his 11-year-old son, Seiichi, and his 5-year-old daughter, Kayano, to the suburbs where his wife’s mother lives. He tells his wife that he will not live long because he has been exposed to the radiation through his research and experiments. She begs Takashi to stay in bed, but he continues examining the patients.
When: August 24 (6:30 pm – 8:30 pm)
Where: The Japan Foundation, Ring Road, Lajpat Nagar

Street saga

What: Taking inspiration from the streets, Indianama is back in the city. This edition will feature works of 71 graphic designers, cross-fertilised with vibrant street-side shops. The streets shape their souls and provide them with succour and inspiration. It includes evocative ideas that feature system identities conceived at and for urban spaces. The project has all that is vibrant, divergent, reflective, and humorous about our inner city intersections. Each designer will be paired with a shop/business owner to conceptualise, design and initiate an identity system for them.
When: August 9 – 23 (6 pm)
Where: Bikaner House, Pandara Flats, India Gate

Spirit of womanhood

What: ‘Object of desire has desires too. A desire to live a fulfilled and happy life.’ Adapted from Franca Rame and Dario Fo’s A Woman Alone, here’s a 55-minute English monologue performed by Shilpa Shukla. Hosted by Rennaissance Theatre Society, it addresses her free spirit, which is often misconstrued to project her as someone she is not. It not just highlights a woman’s need to nurture but also to be nurtured in return.
When: August 24 (7:30 pm)
Where: Sri Ram Centre of Art and Culture, Mandi House

Survivor’s Tale

What: Delhiites, be ready to Lol this weekend. Hilarity — A Bomb of Laughter, brings to you a session of stand-up performance and comedy workshop where they will guide you in creating jokes on the spot. It will also include activities and games, which they say will tickle your funny bone and also give you a chance to interact with different people.
When: August 18 (5 pm)
Where: Café L2L, near Sector 15 Metro station, Noida

Backstage scenes

What: Giving a peek into behind the scenes, Green Room — An Installation in Odissi brings together three classical dancers, spatial designers and theatre practitioners to experiment with the traditional recital form. The green room not only witnesses the transition from regular urban dwellers to dancers but is also an enduring metaphor for the myriad roles women adopt and discard while navigating life. Drop in for the performance that will take you through three such sites, displaying the contrast between the private space and the public personas played on stage in a clockwork, through body and emotions.
When: August 17- 19 (7:45 pm)
Where: OddBird Theatre and Foundation, Chhattarpur
