Spinning a yarn
What: There are several yarns that go into the making of a cotton handloom fabric. From the cotton grown in the fields, to the spinning of the charkha, to the various dyes, the sizer, the warper, the reed maker and the weaver on the loom, here’s an exhibition that brings together these aspects of cotton handloom weaving from Andhra and Telangana. This effort by Dastkar Andhra aims to highlight the medium-skilled weaver and medium-range handloom products, which have been neglected in the discourse that celebrates high-end and high-skilled weaving. To make it an interactive experience, the viewers are encouraged to touch the fabrics, feel the yarns and smell the colours and dyes.
