What: This is the age of industrialization. Every thing of our daily necessities these days is an industrial product. The basic ingredient may be natural, but the production of the basic ingredients too is influenced by industry for the simple reason to grow more. Exploring this idea, artist Pintu Sikder uses the medium of brass nut for his exhibition ‘Shelter’. Vegetables, parts of human body, animels, constitute his subject.

Celebrating crafts

What: Delhi’s crafts connoisseurs and art collectors block you dates for the 34th edition of the Annual Craft Bazaar by Dastkari Haat Samiti is back. A fortnight of cultural performances and an event to celebrate Indian art, crafts and textiles, Dastkari Haat Samiti returns with the much awaited crafts bazaar of the year. The event promises 200 new artisans such as hand-made products crafted from recycled cloth, basketry crafted from bamboo and recycled material, and Kantha embroidery work unique to the eastern regions of the Indian subcontinent, especially Bangladesh. Visitors can appreciate traditional crafts along with innovations that give craftsmen a new repertoire. Explore an array of time-honoured crafts such as Pattachitra paintings (Odisha), Madhubani Art (Mithila region), mat weaving, Picchwai paintings with origins in the Deccan, organic and natural-dyed saris from Kutch, finest embroideries from Gujarat, natural-dyed fabrics from Akola, jewellery, saris and garments based on gamchhas of Bengal. Also on display will be some priceless Kotpad weaves from tribal weavers of the Mirgan community in Odisha, Paper Machie and wood work from Madhya Pradesh.

Myriad hues

What: ‘Alekhya’ an exhibition of painting and sculpture is set out to showcase a magnificent union of different genres of fine arts. Ranging from artist Nidhi’s vibrantly coloured canvases brought to life through the delicate Water Colour Wash Technique and paper etching, to Ganesh Prasad Sahu’s fine oil painting with etching on paper and the exquisite mirror work and paintings of the Buddha articulated by Artist Mohit Bharadwaj. Nidhi, who has been exhibiting her artworks from almost a decade now, primarily enjoys the use of colour and bringing out the strength of various mediums. Her belief in the potency of colours and the strength that a female body reverberates into the universe are evident from her powerful pieces of art. The show is provided with versatility by the assortment of art displays by Mohit Bharadwaj who has for almost two decades been evangelising the power of art through varied painting styles and mediums.
