ODE TO A LEGEND

What: A grandson’s ode to a grandmother, “Amma: Memories of My Grandmother” is a site-specific audio-visual performance by Revanta Sarabhai. Presented by the Gujral Foundation, it captures fragments of memories of his grandmother, the world-renowned Mrinalini Sarabhai (1918-2016), demystifying the pioneering figure to reveal the woman behind the legend. Mrinalini Sarabhai was a path-breaking dancer-choreographer, author, and one of the pioneers who brought Bharatanatyam from inside the temples and onto the world stage. This performance piece together through live dance, video, collections of objects and soundscapes—will bring forth his memories of growing up with the woman that was universally known as ‘Amma’. Walking through the rooms of the house, the audience will discover quirky and rather unknown aspects of her, through his eyes.

When: March 6 -8

Where: 24, Jor Bagh

LAUGH OUT LOUD

What: Here’s a festival that attempts to look for humor in every aspect of our lives — be it work, social lives, politics, history or simply human interaction, through the eyes of noted journalists, writers, lawyers, poets, performers and comedians. The Khushwant Singh Humor Fest 2020 is a tribute to a man who called a spade a spade. The show has been carefully brought to existence by Rahul Singh (Chief Mentor and son of Khushwant Singh) and others. The first part of the festival includes panel discussions on topics like Humor in Media by distinguished panelists from literary and journalistic backgrounds, followed by book launches; deliberations and anecdotes by friends and family – known as the “8 PM Bottoms up club” – from his life. Sessions like Urdu Tanz o Mizah ki shayari; Humor in Law; History of Delhi through the eyes of Humor. The second part will range from the traditional Urdu storytelling – Quissagoi by Danish Husain of Hoshruba Repertory to The Kyunki Ladkiya Funny Nahin Hoti – a comedy collective based on women’s issues by Mahila Manch, Gujarat. Not to forget the enthusiastic participation by stand up comedians – Amit Tandon, Neeti Palta, Anubhav Singh Bassi, Rajneesh Kapoor, Gursimran Khamba, Atul Khatri and Zakir Khan.

ART HISTORY

What: Mumbai artist Milburn Cherian presents her second solo exhibition in the Capital titled ‘Living between the Times 2020’ showcasing 80 works. The show is a suite of captivating paintings that seem to bridge many gaps through the gospel and talk to us about the unity of man and his many ways. She creates images of Biblical relevance and rustic idylls— the images are far from beautiful, but they reflect exquisite craftsmanship, that force us to change how we experience the perspectives we share in art.

When: March 1-7 (10am – 8pm)

Where: Visual Art Gallery, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road
