Artist Shana Sood is set to present her latest exhibition, Homecoming: Echoes of Belonging, at Bikaner House from April 4 to 8. Curated by Georgina Maddox, the exhibition explores themes of identity, belonging, and cultural intersections through a series of evocative portraits.

Sood, an Indian-American artist, draws inspiration from her personal journey, having been born and raised in New Delhi before moving to the United States in 2005. Her work reflects the stories of people she has encountered along the way, inviting viewers to engage in a conversation about the subtle differences and shared experiences between cultures.

A self-taught artist, Sood’s distinct style emerged in her late thirties, shaped by her Indian heritage and exposure to the diverse artistic environment of New England. Her work has been exhibited at renowned galleries, including the North Shore Arts Association, Arlington Centre for the Arts, and Marblehead Arts Association. She was also an anchor artist at The Patriot Place Art Gallery in Massachusetts for four years until its closure in 2024.

One of the central themes of her artwork is Indian womanhood, depicted through portraits that balance tradition and modernity. Many of her works feature women in traditional Indian attire, symbolising cultural heritage while challenging stereotypes. The colour red, frequently seen in her recent pieces, represents passion, nostalgia, and deep cultural ties to India.

The exhibition offers art enthusiasts a chance to explore Sood’s introspective and deeply personal storytelling through portraiture.

When: April 4 – 8; 11 AM – 7 PM

Where: Bikaner House, India Gate, New Delhi
