Threshold Art Gallery will present In-Between Dreams, a solo exhibition by Bhutanese artist Pema ‘Tintin’ Tshering, from September 17 to October 18, at its space in Sarvodaya Enclave.

Known for his introspective approach and evocative symbolism, Tshering’s new body of work explores the terrain between life and death, drawing on the Buddhist concept of bardo — the intermediate state between dissolution and rebirth. His canvases, rooted in Himalayan cosmology and vernacular craft, unfold as meditations on impermanence and transition.

Rather than literal depictions, the series uses masks, mythic beasts and elemental patterns to create emotional landscapes that serve as “visual prayers.” Central to the imagery is the Garuda, a powerful symbol of transformation and inner flight.

“We cannot understand life without understanding death,” Tshering said, explaining that the exhibition reflects his search for clarity rather than certainty. “This work is not about answers, but about creating a space where perception might soften something within us—where we might glimpse the truth in impermanence.”

A self-taught artist, Tshering draws from Bhutan’s cultural heritage, blending thangka-inspired aesthetics with modern abstraction to create a visual language that is both personal and universal. Commentators such as Ariana Maki and filmmaker Tashi Gyeltshen have described his practice as an inquiry into perception, resilience and the unseen realms of experience.

In-Between Dreams will be on view Monday to Saturday, 11 AM to 7 PM (Sundays by appointment), at Threshold Art Gallery, C-221, Sarvodaya Enclave, New Delhi.
