An exhibition of artworks by Professor Sukhvir Sanghal will be held at the India International Centre Annexe Art Gallery from June 9 to 17. Titled The Silent Canvas Speaks Again, the show features his paintings, woodwork, tapestries, and sculptures. The gallery will be open daily from 11 AM to 7 PM.

The exhibition is curated by Sanghal’s granddaughter, Priyam Chandra, who has been collecting and organising his works for display.

Sanghal was born in 1914 in Muzaffarnagar. As a young man, he took part in the Non-Cooperation Movement and was arrested. He later studied at the Government School of Arts and Crafts in Lucknow, where he learned under artists like AK Halder and Abanindranath Tagore.

His work includes a wide range of styles and techniques, such as the wash painting method, which uses layers of colour to create emotion and meaning. The exhibition includes paintings on silk and wood, portraits, landscapes, and a few sculptures.

Some of the pieces on display were shown in national exhibitions in earlier decades. One painting, Thou Art Dust, to Dust Returnest, was once purchased for the British royal collection during the time of King George V.
