Bharatanatyam dancer Kavya Navani will give her Arangetram, or first solo stage performance, on Sunday, July 27, at the Chinmaya Mission Auditorium in Lodhi Estate. The event will begin at 6:00 PM and is being presented by her teacher, Geeta Chandran.

The programme is organised by Natya Vriksha, the dance institution founded by Chandran, who is a well-known Bharatanatyam artist and recipient of the Padma Shri and Sangeet Natak Akademi awards.

Delhi’s Minister for Art, Culture & Language, Kapil Mishra, will attend the event as Chief Guest. Actor and former MP Raj Babbar will be present as Guest of Honour.

Kavya Navani has been training in Bharatanatyam since the age of five under Chandran’s guidance. She has earlier performed at events held at Dilli Haat, Neeti Bagh Lawns and the Garden of Five Senses. She has also received the Nrityakala Award at dance festivals in Indore and Delhi.

An Arangetram marks a student’s readiness to perform on stage independently, after several years of learning and practice. Chandran said such performances are an important part of the traditional learning system and help keep classical dance alive.
