Gond Pradhans of Patangarh: A Dynamic New Art Taking Roots, an exhibition presented by the Raza Foundation in collaboration with the India International Centre (IIC), will be held at the Art Gallery, Kamaladevi Complex, from June 13 to 26. The exhibition brings together the work of 21 Gond Pradhan artists from Patangarh, tracing the evolution of a distinctive contemporary tribal visual tradition rooted in oral narratives, songs, myths, and musical memory.
The exhibition explores the artistic movement initiated by the pioneering Gond artist Jangarh Singh Shyam, whose practice transformed inherited storytelling traditions into a rich visual language. Blurring the boundaries between imagination and reality, nature and mythology, the works reveal a world where ancestral knowledge and contemporary artistic expression coexist.
Featuring artists including Champi Shyam, Jyoti Shyam, Rajesh Shyam, Santosh Shyam, Sunita Dhurvey, Vijay Uikey, and others, the exhibition highlights how successive generations of Gond Pradhan artists have continued to expand and reinterpret the legacy established by Jangarh Singh Shyam.

Through intricate compositions, vibrant imagery, and deeply personal narratives, the participating artists reflect on cultural memory, community, the natural world, and the enduring relevance of indigenous knowledge systems. Together, the works demonstrate the vitality and continued growth of one of India’s most significant contemporary tribal art movements.
