A solo exhibition titled Guardians of the Threshold by artist Kaisang Padma will be held at Main Gallery, Bikaner House, New Delhi, from June 5 to 9. Curated by Loox Art Hub and AJS, the exhibition presents a series of acrylic paintings inspired by the landscapes and cultural traditions of Ladakh.
The works explore Himalayan mountain passes as spaces of transition, memory and contemplation. Through depictions of cliffs, bridges, pathways and architectural forms, Padma examines the relationship between people and the natural environment.
Recurring figures appear as solitary observers within expansive landscapes, drawing on themes of watchfulness, silence and reflection. Rather than focusing on literal representation, the paintings use layered surfaces, muted palettes and simplified forms to evoke atmosphere and place.
Based between Ladakh and New Delhi, Padma worked in film production for over a decade before turning to painting. Her practice is informed by the landscapes of Ladakh and frequently centres on themes of memory, solitude and human presence within the Himalayan region.
