The Guru Purnima Nritya Mahotsav, a celebration of India’s classical dance heritage, will be held on Thursday, July 11, at 6:30 PM at the Satyagraha Mandap, Gandhi Darshan, Gandhi Smriti, Raj Ghat.

Jointly organised by the Urvashi Dance Music Art & Cultural Society and Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, the event will feature performances by renowned classical dancers and their disciples in traditional forms such as Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Odissi, and Kuchipudi.

Held annually to mark Guru Purnima, the festival honours the revered Guru-Shishya parampara—a foundational pillar of Indian art and culture. This year’s Mahotsav will bring together some of the country’s celebrated classical dancers and their disciples, offering audiences a vibrant showcase of traditional dance forms including Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Odissi, and Kuchipudi.

“The festival is our humble offering to the timeless Guru-Shishya parampara, which lies at the heart of Indian culture,” said Urvashi Sharma, Kathak exponent and founder of the Urvashi Dance Music Art & Cultural Society. “Through this Mahotsav, we aim to honour our teachers and keep the spirit of tradition alive through the language of classical dance.”

The performances are designed not only to entertain, but also to educate audiences about the spiritual and philosophical depth of Indian dance traditions. Each recital reflects the bond between guru and disciple, symbolising the transmission of knowledge, values, and discipline across generations.

Sushma Sharma, Director of Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, added, “Raj Ghat, with its aura of peace and reflection, is the ideal place to celebrate Guru Purnima. The event is not only about dance but also about paying tribute to the values of learning, humility, and gratitude.”

Entry to the event is free and open to all. The organisers invite all lovers of art, culture, and heritage to be part of this spiritual and cultural evening.
