Hasya Rang Utsav brings comedy and theatre to Delhi this December

The national capital is experiencing an explosion of laughter and theatrical brilliance as Sahitya Kala Parishad, under the Government of NCT, Delhi, is hosting the much-awaited Hasya Rang Utsav.

The three-day festival is dedicated to the finest comedy plays and stand-up performances. The event promises to offer an unforgettable blend of humour, creativity, and cultural celebration.

On the first day of the festival, the event will kick off with a side-splitting stand-up performance by the legendary comedian Sunil Pal, known for his sharp wit and comic timing.

This will be followed by a captivating stage performance of the classic play Charandas Chor, written by the celebrated playwright Habib Tanvir and directed by Rajesh Tiwari (NSD). The play, known for its rich cultural narrative and comedic undertones, is sure to set the tone for an exciting festival ahead.

On the second day, the festival will feature another popular stand-up comic, Ehsaan Qureshi, whose humour has resonated with audiences across the nation. Ehsaan’s performance will be followed by the hilarious play Ghar Ka Na Ghat Ka, a comedy of errors written by Jaywardhan Singh and directed by JP Singh. This delightful performance promises to entertain audiences with its witty dialogues and engaging plot twists.

The concluding day will witness a rib-tickling stand-up act by the charismatic VIP, whose unique comic style and infectious energy are expected to keep the audience in splits. The grand finale will feature Anton Chekhov’s timeless one-act play Bank Manager, which promises to bring out the absurdity of bureaucracy and human folly through its sharp humour and subtle critiques of society. Directed by Shyam Kumar, this performance is a perfect way to close the festival with a bang.

Commenting on the festival, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Minister of Art, Culture & Languages, Government of Delhi, said, “Hasya Rang Utsav is a tribute to Delhi’s deep love for theatre and comedy. The festival brings together some of the most talented comedians and theatre artists from across the country to create a unique, immersive experience for our audience. I am confident that this festival will leave everyone in splits and raise the bar for comedy festivals in India.”

As the year draws to a close, Hasya Rang Utsav offers a perfect opportunity to usher in the new year with joy, laughter, and a fresh appreciation for the rich tradition of Indian comedy and theatre.

“The three-day event promises a celebration of humour, artistry, and cultural brilliance that will surely be remembered for years to come,” the organisers said.
