IHC Lok Sangeet Sammelan: Folk music fest

A two-day folk music festival, titled IHC Lok Sangeet Sammelan is set to enchant music enthusiasts with a celebration of India’s rich and diverse cultural tapestry, blending traditions of culture, religion, and polity.

The event is a collaborative effort between Amarrass Records and the Amarrass Society for Performing Arts, promising a melodic journey into the heart of the country’s syncretic heritage.

The festival will start on August 26 at 7:00 pm, spotlighting the enduring oral traditions of the Mewati community.

According to organisers, Jumme Khan, a revered Jogi and folk poet hailing from Pinan village in Alwar, Rajasthan, will lead a mesmerising Qawwali performance, accompanied by his talented band of musicians.

They said that the audience will be transported to the heart of the Mewati way of life through this remarkable showcase.

Following this, the stage will be graced by Himalimou, a captivating band of folk musicians from Kumaon, who will present a diverse array of musical styles unique to their region, they added.

The festivities continue on August 27 at 7:00 pm with “Rehmat-e-Nusrat” the alter ego of Himalimou. This dynamic group of self-trained qawwals offers a fresh perspective on the timeless musical legacy of India.

The ensemble will present a soul-stirring repertoire, featuring qawwalis by the legendary Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, along with Sufiyana kalaams by eminent poets such as Amir Khusrau, Meera Bai, and Baba Bulleh Shah. The performance will encompass a variety of musical forms including Ghazals, Kabir Bhajans, and their own original compositions.
