Art Konsult is currently showcasing “In Soft Strokes”, a solo exhibition featuring the works of artist Awani Kant, running from October 15 to 30. The exhibition is located at Art Konsult in Hauz Khas Village.

The exhibition opened with notable figures, Prayag Shukla, an art critic and poet, and Jatin Das, an established artist, attending the inaugural event.

Kant’s “Blue Period” paintings are the focal point of the exhibition, contrasting with the melancholic blues often associated with Picasso. Instead, these works present bright and joyful hues that evoke nostalgia, drawing inspiration from various seas, including the Mediterranean and the Arabian Sea. Through his art, Kant invites viewers to explore themes of love, desire, and passion.

His depictions of the female form, frequently described as erotic art, utilise everyday symbols like flowers, fruits, and animals to enhance sensuality while grounding them in real-life experiences.

Developed under the mentorship of Ramkinkar Baij and KG Subramanyan, Kant’s artistic style challenges societal norms around spirituality and sensuality. His works explore the tension between these elements, prompting viewers to reflect on their emotions and the pleasures of life.

Siddhartha Tagore commented on Kant’s works, stating, “Awani Kant’s works reflect an exploration of the human condition, intertwining themes of eroticism and spirituality with deep emotional undertones”. Tagore highlighted Kant’s use of oil pastels, which incorporate subtle humour and sensuality, often represented through objects like watermelons and birds. This artistic approach portrays women in moments of introspection and longing, connecting traditional values with contemporary sensibilities.

The exhibition continues to provide insight into Kant’s unique perspective on human emotions and the complexities of desire until October 30, 2024.
