India Art Festival 2024: A showcase of contemporary Indian art

The India Art Festival (IAF) will be held at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi, from November 14 to 17. This annual event brings together a diverse mix of artistic talent, featuring both renowned and emerging artists from across India. Established in 2008 by the Indian Contemporary Art Journal, IAF initially aimed to support artists from rural and semi-urban areas. Over the years, it has evolved into a national platform, expanding its reach to cities like Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad.

According to Minakshi Patil, the founder, the festival seeks to address the limited exhibition opportunities available to the over 200,000 practising artists in India. Through a dual pavilion model, IAF creates an inclusive platform for both art galleries and independent artists, directly connecting them with collectors, galleries, and art enthusiasts, while fostering greater accessibility to art.

The event will showcase a broad range of styles, with landscape art by Bela Kumari, Rahul Naskar, and Varun Singh; abstract pieces by Alka Pandey and Cheena Madan; and figurative works by Amita Singhal and Anjali Prabhakar, which explore themes of human connection. Spiritual portrayals by Abhishek Aacharya and Arshhia Chawla and realistic depictions of daily life by Pankan Bawdekar and Gunjan Garg add to the variety, capturing different facets of Indian life and culture.

Sculptural works by Akshay Jadhav and Debjyoti Purakayastha will also be on display, along with wildlife and tantra-inspired art by Mukesh Kumar and Akshata Shetty, further enriching the exhibition’s diversity. This year’s lineup reflects a wide spectrum of contemporary Indian art, providing a comprehensive view of its evolving landscape.

In addition to the visual art displays, IAF will feature live music, painting demonstrations, and daily film screenings. One of the highlights is The Eternal Canvas – A 12,000-Year Journey through Indian Art, a film tracing the history of Indian art from prehistoric times to the present. Performances by artists like Vilas Kulkarni and Sanjib Gogoi will be accompanied by musical interludes featuring sitar and flute, creating a multi-sensory experience for festival-goers.
