Odyssey: A solo exhibition by Poonam Bhatnagar

Khushii Art will present Odyssey, a solo exhibition by artist Poonam Bhatnagar, curated by Uma Nair, at LTC, Bikaner House, New Delhi, from September 23 to 27. The exhibition traces Bhatnagar’s artistic journey through nature, memory, mythology and spirituality, bringing together works from her series Prakriti, Mayura, Enlightened One and Mythos.

The exhibition reflects Bhatnagar’s experiences from childhood and travels across continents, as well as her engagement with landscapes, human subjects and Indian mythology. Her works combine detailed embellishments with layered landscapes and symbolic imagery, drawing on her training in textiles and her interest in natural forms.

A distinctive element of Bhatnagar’s practice is her “webcast technique”, developed after studying the intricate structure of a spider’s web in 2016. The technique creates a maze-like network of fine lines that forms the foundation of many of her compositions.

Prakriti focuses on landscapes and the changing moods of nature, while Mayura brings together peacocks with architectural references to Rajasthan’s havelis. Enlightened One explores the figure of Buddha through soft, autumnal and tropical imagery. The Mythos series turns to Indian mythology, featuring figures including Hanuman, Saraswati, Shiva, Ram, Ganesha and Lakshmi. Meerabai, presented through the imagery of bhakti, opens the exhibition at the entrance.

Through these works, Odyssey brings together personal memory, cultural imagination and spiritual themes, offering a reflection on nature, storytelling and the search for a sense of connection and peace.
