Points of Cont(act), a solo exhibition by Sehaj Malik, is underway at Method Delhi and will continue till April 19. The show is curated by Sahil Arora.
The exhibition centres on To the Cosmos and Back in 29 Steps, a site-specific work developed inside the gallery over a fixed daily schedule. The artist followed set working hours, beginning at 8 AM, pausing at noon, and continuing from 1 PM to 5 PM.
The work uses the body as a reference for making marks. Lines and arcs are created based on the reach and movement of the artist’s limbs, with repetition guided by physical limits.
Executed mainly in charcoal, the drawings consist of layered circular and elliptical forms. The walls and floors of the gallery are used as surfaces, showing traces of movement and contact.
The work draws from factory-like systems of labour, with references to routine, repetition and physical effort. It also brings together mechanical and bodily processes such as movement and fatigue.
Sehaj Malik (b. 2001) is based between Delhi and Paris and is currently studying at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris. This is her debut solo exhibition. She has previously participated in exhibitions in Paris and New Delhi, including shows at Method Delhi.
