The seventh edition of Delhi Contemporary Art Week (DCAW) is set to captivate art enthusiasts at Bikaner House from August 31 to September 4. This annual event, a collaborative effort by six galleries, continues to celebrate South Asian art and contemporary voices.

DCAW, known for its commitment to amplifying the voices of creative artists, transforms Bikaner House into a dynamic art space. This year’s edition promises to offer a rich tapestry of artistic expressions, reflecting the diverse themes and techniques of contemporary art.

The exhibition will feature works from established and emerging artists from India and the broader South Asian region. Participating galleries include Blueprint 12, Exhibit 320, Gallery Espace, Latitude 28, Shrine Empire, and Vadehra Art Gallery, each bringing its unique curatorial vision and showcasing a variety of mediums and styles.

Art Mumbai will co-host the opening night and a public walkthrough on August 31, led by Associate Director Teesta Bhandare and curator Girish Shahane. The event will kick off with a preview evening on August 30.

This year’s exhibitions include “Threads That Bare”, which focuses on textile artists from across India. Curated by Girish Shahane, this exhibition explores the rich traditions of Indian textiles through contemporary practices, showcasing how techniques like weaving, embroidery, and Kantha are reinterpreted in modern art. Featuring 14 artists such as Geeta Khandelwal, Udita Upadhyaya, and Sumakshi Singh, the show highlights the intersection of heritage and contemporary expression.

Another highlight is “A Bold Step Sideways”, also curated by Girish Shahane. This exhibition presents artworks that challenge traditional notions of art and history, reflecting a generation of artists who navigate a fluid cultural landscape.

It emphasises how personal and political identities are central to contemporary art, celebrating a shift where traditional boundaries are transcended.

When: August 31 to September 4

Where: Bikaner House, New Delhi
