A special evening of classical dance celebrating India’s unsung women heroes will take place at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, on August 7 from 7:00 PM onwards. Titled Stree, the production is presented by Vaishali Kala Kendra and curated by Dr. Guru Jyoti Shrivastava.
The performance brings together stories of strength, devotion and sacrifice, showcasing the lives of two remarkable women—Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar and freedom fighter Matangini Hazra—through the classical dance form of Odissi.
The first piece focuses on the 300th birth anniversary of Ahilyabai Holkar, portraying her journey from a young widow to a visionary queen and temple builder. The second performance highlights Matangini Hazra’s role in India’s independence movement, capturing her courage and martyrdom.
The event features choreographies by Vaishali Kala Kendra, Art Vision led by Padma Shri Ileana Citaristi, and AIPA led by Guru Alaknanda Dasgupta. Senior disciples Khyati Rawat, Sanvi Rastogi, and Shruti Mishra will also perform.
