An exhibition titled Zikr, showcasing contemplative pencil and charcoal works by artist Shikha Sheoran, is currently underway at Annexe Gallery. The exhibition turns its gaze toward the quieter, often unseen dimensions of human presence, foregrounding stillness, vulnerability and the emotional lives that unfold beneath everyday appearances.
Through intimate portraiture, Zikr reflects on moments of pause and inward reflection, presenting faces and figures rendered with restraint and emotional honesty. Working primarily with pencil and charcoal, Sheoran uses the discipline of drawing to document human presence in its most pared-down form, allowing subtle expressions and silences to carry meaning.
The exhibition forms part of Sheoran’s ongoing series of the same name, which functions as a visual record of contemplation. The works seek to give form to emotions and personal narratives that resist verbal articulation, focusing instead on what can be suggested through gesture, gaze and tonal nuance.

Rather than dramatic settings or overt storytelling, the portraits emphasise quiet resilience and vulnerability, inviting viewers to engage slowly with the drawings and the inner worlds they evoke. The use of monochrome materials further heightens the sense of intimacy, keeping attention fixed on expression and emotional texture.
Zikr was inaugurated on February 10 and will remain on view until February 17.
