The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), which covers an area of 1,397.3 km², is among the largest municipal bodies in the world providing civic services to an estimated population of more than 11 million citizens in the Capital. There are 250 seats up for grabs and the party that wins 126 seats will come to power.

The three major parties – incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have gone all out to canvass for the elections.

The run-up to the high-stakes civic polls in Delhi has not only seen high-decibel campaigning by the leading parties engaging in bitter blame games, but also the birth of colourful and quirky phrases from the mouths of politicians.

The BJP has been in power in the MCD since 2007. During its 15-year-run at its helm, the party has seen the civic body trifurcated into NDMC, SDMC, and EDMC (2012-2022), and its reunification earlier this year.

Several chief ministers and Union ministers have stumped for BJP candidates in the past few weeks, raising the fever pitch while engaging in political attacks, with the AAP and its supremo Arvind Kejriwal often in the crosshairs.

A look at their campaigning in pictures.

Woman power: Women seem to have played an important role while campaigning in the rural parts
of Delhi
Going hi-tech: With BJP and AAP having armies of workers to campaign for them, the Congress
explained their agenda to people through big screens
Divided loyalty: This wheelchair-bound gentleman expressed support for everyone
No quarter given: The election is expected to be a two-way fight between AAP and BJP and no one is
giving even an inch away.
Dump them: The Aam Aadmi Party used garbage dumping as the major issue. The party said that the
BJP-governed MCD hasn’t been able to do justice
