Bigg Boss 18 fame Shilpa Shirodkar tests positive for COVID-19

Actress Shilpa Shirodkar has revealed that she has tested positive for COVID-19. Sharing the news on her Instagram account, Shirodkar posted a brief message: “Hello people! I have been tested positive for COVID. Stay safe and wear your mask! – Shilpa Shirodkar.” She captioned the post simply with, “Stay Safe.”

The announcement prompted a wave of well-wishes from fans in the comments section. Many expressed their concern and wished the actress a speedy recovery. Comments such as “Get well soon” and “Take care Shilpa ji” were accompanied by reminders to remain cautious. Others praised her for using her platform to raise awareness at a time when COVID-19 cases are once again on the rise in parts of Asia.

Shilpa Shirodkar, an Indian actress and former model, was a popular face in Hindi films from 1989 to 2000. After a 13-year hiatus, she made a comeback with Ek Mutthi Aasmaan (2013) and later participated in Bigg Boss 18 (2024). She has been married to Aparesh Ranjit since 2000 and has a daughter. Her sister, Namrata Shirodkar, is married to actor Mahesh Babu.

Several countries in the region—including Singapore, Hong Kong, China, and Thailand—have reported a notable uptick in infections over recent weeks. Health experts attribute the surge to waning immunity among the general population and reduced uptake of booster vaccinations among the elderly.

Singapore, in particular, has seen a significant increase, reporting approximately 14,200 cases as of 3 May—marking a 28% rise from the same period last year. In China, case numbers are approaching the peaks observed during the summer of 2023, while Thailand reported a spike in infections following the Songkran Festival in April.

In a recent statement, Singapore’s Ministry of Health clarified that there is no evidence suggesting the currently circulating variants are more transmissible or severe than earlier strains.

As COVID-19 continues to linger, public health officials are urging continued vigilance, including masking in crowded areas and staying up to date with vaccinations—measures echoed by Shirodkar in her message to fans.
