Saif Ali Khan
Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan underwent surgery on Thursday at a Mumbai hospital to remove a knife lodged in his spine after being repeatedly stabbed by an intruder at his residence. Doctors have confirmed that Khan, 54, is now “out of danger” and on the path to recovery.
The emergency surgery was performed at Lilavati Hospital, where Khan was rushed following the incident that occurred around 2:30 am at his home in the ‘Satguru Sharan’ building.
Dr Niraj Uttamani, Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Lilavati Hospital, informed reporters, “We removed a 2.5-inch piece of knife from the spine.” He explained that the actor had suffered two severe injuries, two intermediate wounds, and two abrasions.
“Fortunately, Saif Ali Khan’s surgery went very well. He is recovering and has been shifted to the ICU. He may be moved to the ward within a day or two,” Dr Uttamani stated.
The injuries were deep, but the surgical team successfully managed the procedure. Dr Uttamani further revealed that both neurosurgery and plastic surgery were performed. “Khan is looking fine and is on a 100 per cent recovery path as per our initial assessment,” he added.
Dr Nitin Dange, a neurosurgeon at Lilavati Hospital, elaborated that Khan had sustained a significant injury to his thoracic spine. “A knife lodged in his spine caused a major injury. Surgery was performed to remove the knife and repair the leaking spinal fluid. Additionally, two deep wounds—one on his left hand and another on the right side of his neck—were repaired by the plastic surgery team,” Dr Dange explained.
